Extreme Shark Footage

Local Line Burner fishing magazine writer 'Sharky' Shane Down was on the water that day when a sperm whale carcass floated in from the Pacific Ocean and found itself on one of Port Douglas's local outer reef systems. What makes this event even more special is that sperm whales don't even inhabit our waters, so it had floated some distance.

The carcass had attracted much attention including the likes of massive Tiger and Bull Sharks which were gorging themselves on the free feed. Being the avid adventurer, Shane could not pass up the opportunity and jumped in the water possessing only a camera, snorkel, fins and swimmers to film the amazing event whilst being hovered around by a dozen 15ft sharks.

Shane got within centimetres as the huge sharks tore chunks off the whale carcass. These sharks approached Shane checking him out and even bumped head first into the camera on several occasions. Shane stroked the beasts as they passed him by and even on a couple of opportunities he grabbed onto their fins and went for a ride or as many now call it, he went 'Shark Surfing'.

This footage has created worldwide hysteria and we are priviliged to be the exclusive website permitted to show sections of this incredible event of sharks feeding in their natural environment and one very special man who had the intuition and bravery to interact with them.
