Akula Sportfishing
Akula is a 7.2m Marlin Broadbill vessel providing a fast, stable and comfortable ride specialising in sportfishing trips to the Great Barrier Reef. Small numbers with our local skipper with 30yrs local experience, ensures you are in the best of hands with exciting possibilities which can be tailor made.
The choice and range of daily trips are extensive and include the mega day 10hr outer reef adventure, a full day outer reef 8hr charter and a coastal reef 4.5hr half day trip. Snorkelling and Island/Sand Cay experiences can be included at exclusive locations on full day charters only by request.
All supplied fishing gear is of the highest standard and angling options include light game tackle, popper/surface fishing across the reefs, jigging and deep sea reef fishing. With the latest of Furuno/Garmin navionics and extensive local knowledge our strike rate is impressive.
Target species can include Spanish mackerel, giant trevally, tuna, wahoo, dolphin fish, small black marlin, red emperor, nannygai, coral trout, jobfish, trevally species plus many more. Some offshore pelagic species are seasonable. All legal catches are processed, chilled and bagged. We do encourage sustainable fishing practices.

Charters (Private Charter Only)
All departures are from the Port Douglas Marina Berth A4 for convenient and safe boarding. Plenty of free parking. Please at arrive the boat 5 minutes before starting time.
Maximum 5 pax.
All Fishing Gear Supplied. We provide water, cordial & sunscreen.
BYO Food & preferred drink. Alcohol BYO. Chilled Esky provided.
Snorkelling or Island/ Sand Cay experience available by request.
Prices
$1750 - 10hr Great Barrier Reef Adventure to bountiful fishing grounds where no others venture. All sportfishing angling catered for. Departs 7am returning by 5pm.
$1650 – 8hr Great Barrier Reef Charter to extensive fishing grounds on the outer reef. All sportfishing catered for. Departs 8am returning by 4pm.
$900 – 5hr Reef Charter to productive fishing grounds. Bottom fishing, jigging and lure casting catered for. AM Charters depart 7am returning by 12.00pm & PM Charters depart 12.30pm returning by 5.30pm.
$700 – 4hr Coastal Reef Charter to productive fishing grounds. Bottom fishing, jigging and lure casting catered for. AM Charters depart 8am returning by 12.00pm & PM Charters depart 12.30pm returning by 4.30pm.
Please note:
- a card is essential to book the charter and a 30% deposit required to secure the booking
- full payment balance taken 72hrs prior to charter start time
- a 1.6% fee applies for all credit card bookings
- a 72 hour 100% cancellation fee applies on all trips
- all trips are subject to weather
- in the case of unfavourable weather, we will offer to transfer bookings to coastal reefs & estuary options
- lost gear on all lures/vibes/jigs are charged at cost
